My first day of school was not memorable to me. However I do remember the fun of getting to eat in the cafeteria and going to art and music class.
I always loved school supply shopping!! I would sit for hours looking at my new goodies and organizing them just so for the first day of school! And I still am a craft supply junky!!
I was super nervous and cried a lot on the first day of school. My grandmother took me to school and I could not let go of her hand. She was there with me for a while then left for work. Afterall, I survived the first day and loves going to school.
I dreaded the first day of school as a child all the way through 4th grade. I wanted to stay home, and didn’t understand why I had to go! I would cry, cling to my mom, and refuse to go.
I really enjoyed school but my most memorable first day was the year I started 6th grade; I was goofing around trying to amuse my siblings on Labor Day and I yelled and made a flying leap onto the couch, head diving into the cushions and unfortunately snapping my glasses right in half. Everything was closed for the holiday and I had to start middle school the next day with my glasses taped across the nosepiece. It built character. 8^)
My first day of gr. 3 was the most memorable because I started later than everyone else due to a move and the whole day they didn’t have a desk for me 😫 It was super awkward!
We are creating new memories RIGHT NOW. My oldest child will be starting Kindergarten Homeschool in a few days. this lead up to her first day is going to be incredible more memorable to me than my own first days. it’s a joy to be able to be a bigger part of it than if we were sending her out of the home.
I have always loved everything about going back to school. Shopping for supplies, shoes, and uniforms. Seeing your school friends again after summer break, even going to class.
I grew up overseas in Saudi Arabia. Every summer we would come back to the states… before heading back to the Middle East, my parents would take us back to school shopping. what a special treat to have some cool American gear to bring back with us. I was always so excited to wear my new American back to school outfit. imagine my surprise when someone at school had the same outfit as I did… they had gone shopping in the states too.
I remember my first day of second grade. We lived next door to the school and my sister and I walked that morning and ever morning after. I have fond memories of those walks. The air was still crisp and dew lined the ground. We had to cross over a small creek via a hand made bridge. Oh to be young again!
My first day of school memories are always brought into focus by the smell of a fresh box of crayons or a jar of paste. I always loved the fresh start a first day of school gave me.
I have memories of getting up early for a pancake breakfast, my mom curling my hair, wearing my new school clothes and shoes, and making sure all of my new school supplies were in my bag.
I honestly can’t remember my first days as a student. The new year wasn’t a huge deal as a homeschooler. But I do remember my first day as a teacher. The anticipation, excitement! Wondering what my students would be like; what my year would be like! And here I am again, at the doorway of a new year with all of it’s possibilities! 😃
Part of my favorite ritual for back to school and even when I was the teacher. Love these goodies for my kids I now homeschool
I remember my first day of school as a Kindergartner. I was the youngest of four kids and was always jealous when the school bus came to take my siblings. I can still remember seeing the bus come around the corner when I was finally able to board the bus with my siblings!
My first day of kindergarten was one of the only days my mom shut down her small business. She walked me to and from school and we stopped for ice cream. It made such an impression I wanted to continue the tradition with my own kids who begin school this year and since I spend so much time with them, they aren’t very wowed by it
We have 9th grader, 2nd, kindergarten & a learning to crawl baby 😉
Favorite memory would be last year when they all went to the same elementary school! Yes TK-8th! Each village we live in has an elementary school & we all have one high school. It was wonderful to walk them all to school and just know they were all together (although 8th grader rarely saw the littles)-then I went home and did my own schooling for my preschool certification (while pregnant!) ahh!
This year is much different so that’s why last year is my favorite memory 😆
I don’t have many clear memories of first days of school! I remember worrying about what to wear, in the middle grades. But shopping for new notebooks was always fun
Hello, Sarah!
Came across your blog while searching for some best toys to provide my kids with. I realized that toys shouldn’t be limited to plastic, metal, or digital stuff. Rather, they can also have fun using coloring materials. I remember when I was a kid, I have my backpack filled to the brim with colored pencils (that’s just an exaggeration!). Hahaha! Anyway, too bad the giveaway’s closed… Nevertheless, have a blessed weekend!
Regards,
Nicky
