Green Your Halloween with Natural Costumes

Join me on my first television appearance as the owner of Bella Luna Toys!

In this segment for the evening news magazine “207” in Portland, Maine, I share ideas for alternative costumes for Halloween. Instead of spending money on a mass-produced costume that will be worn once and end up in a landfill, consider instead making or buying a quality handmade costume that will last for years, and be enjoyed year-round for fun dress-up play.

Halloween can be frightening for preschoolers, so rather than monsters, goblins, and ghouls, here are some ideas for classic fantasy characters from literature and fairy tales that will engage a young child’s imagination.

And remember that dress-up play has many developmental benefits (the subject of my next blog post), and is not just for Halloween. A dress-up corner or basket of costumes should be part of every preschool classroom and every child’s play room.

Here are the costumes and products featured on the show:

Wishing you and your family a safe, healthy, and NATURAL Halloween!
