ImagiPlanks: Introducing the Infinite Playground

We regret that ImagiPlanks are no longer being manufactured and that this post is out-of-date.

I don’t think I’ve been as excited about introducing a new toy since I introduced our Waldorf Rocker Boards at Bella Luna Toys almost two years ago.

I have long been on the lookout for great Waldorf outdoor toys to add to our collection, but, like everything offered at Bella Luna Toys, they must be beautiful, all-natural, and encourage open-ended play and creativity. Further, outdoor toys should invite large-motor movement like jumping, climbing and building. The pickings have been slim.

So imagine my excitement when the inventor of a new wooden outdoor play set contacted me about partnering to offer his yet-unnamed construction set at Bella Luna Toys.

Once I saw this video of the newly-monikered ImagiPlanks in action, I knew this was a match made in heaven!

As you can see, kids can use ImagiPlanks to build an infinite variety of fun and cool structures:

•  Bridges
•  Tunnels
•  Towers
•  Forts
•  Houses
•  See-Saws

ImagiPlanks - Natural Waldorf Outdoor Toys

Made in the USA of sustainably harvested Ponderosa Pine, the 20 pieces in this set are finished with an all-natural unique blend of pure Linseed Oil, Tung Oil, Pine Rosin, Orange Oil, and Beeswax.

Best of all, ImagiPlanks can also be used indoors—a boon for those of us parents in northern climes who are facing a long winter ahead.

Oh, had only ImagiPlanks been invented when my boys were still young! Guess I’ll have to wait for grandchildren.

Tell me what you think. Are you as excited about ImagiPlanks as I am? Share your thoughts here.

As an owner and director of a 5 STAR licensed children’s center in VT, I really love these! I had seen something similar to these just a few months ago, not sure if they were made by the same designer, They looked like giant building Popsicle sticks with the grooves cut out. but I think these would be great in advocating team work and creative thought. My question though, will these be affordable?

Thanks for your comment, Sheila. The set is priced at $379.95. Reasonable, I thought, when compared to quality outdoor swing and climbing sets. Not sure my post made clear that these are available for shipping now at Bella Luna Toys.

Oh wow! We will definitely be buying these in a year or so. Some of my favorite childhood memories are building with a stack of 2 x 4s in our backyard: forts, castles, slides, etc. But these are much better and have the awesome bonus of no splinters! (And no black widows, like our pile did. LOL!)

Okay, I need to start saving up for these! I know someone who will just love them! 🙂 Very cool!

Omg!! These are everything I was hoping for in a play structure! Absolute perfection! My Christmas shopping is already done, but I smell bday gifts….

Are these weather-proofed in any way, or would they need to be brought inside each evening or each time it rains? They look wonderful!

I would like to know the answer too, we are in Seattle and want to use them outdoors.

I checked with the maker. These can be left outside, but should be treated every year or two with a new coating of finish. (Bella Luna Toys will soon be offering the natural oil blend finish used on the ImagPlanks to re-treat your boards with.)

Personally, I would suggest covering them with a tarp, or storing them in a shed to prolong their life, if that’s a possibility for you.

I have the same question as
mama Songbird. Living in the Maritimes we have a lot of rain and “salty fog!” I love the idea, but I would worry about the weather having an adverse affect on them.

I can not locate these on Bella Luna toys?!!

  • Reply Sarah Baldwin December 27, 2012 at 6:41 pm

So sorry, Danielle. I discovered that the link in the post was broken and have fixed that.

Unfortunately, the ImagiPlanks are temporarily out-of-stock. The response to this new building set was overwhelming during the holidays, and we are waiting for the originators to manufacture more.

You can sign up on the product page to be notified as soon as they are back in stock!

These toys are awesome. I love REAL toys that are made out of wood just like I had when I was a kid. Do you know when more of these toys will be in stock? I’d love to get my hands on some. Also, I’m on this kick to buy a couple wood tree swings. I want real wood, not sawdust and glue. If you know you can reply here and I’ll follow the comments.
    thanks

Very happy to report that after a four-month wait, ImagiPlanks are back in stock!

The new and improved sets now feature two sizes of planks and are made of smoothly-sanded bass wood, rather than pine, for increased durability.

Will you be getting these back in stock?

    • Reply Sarah Baldwin November 17, 2014 at 9:59 pm

Maja, I am sorry to say that we have discontinued carrying the ImagiPlanks after the founder changed the original design. I felt that the original sets were based on a great concept and had a great design, but the makers of the set had a difficult time producing the original design in quantity at an affordable price.

I felt that the new design wasn’t up to Bella Luna Toys’ standards and didn’t feel that the quality justified the price tag. We are hoping that the originators of ImagiPlanks will keep developing their design and improving their manufacturing to produce sets in the future that meet high standards for quality toys and playthings.

We would love to offer them again in the future and are hopeful!
