As many of you know, I was in Germany last week attending the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg.
Not only was I ecstatic to discover many wonderful new wooden toys and Waldorf dolls to introduce this year at Bella Luna Toys, but I was also fortunate to have the opportunity to meet with the presidents of several of the lines of European toys we carry, including Grimm’s Spiel & Holz, PlanToys, Käthe Kruse, HABA, and Ostheimer.
I had a long and wonderful visit with Wolfgang Schühle, the president of Ostheimer in Germany, and met Stephan Zech, the company’s current designer. I was able to share with them my love of Ostheimer figures and tell them about the joy they have brought my family over the last 20 years.
Wolfgang was able to share with me some of the history of the company, founded by Margarete Ostheimer in Stuttgart, Germany nearly 60 years ago. Fortunately, I was able to record some of my talk with Mr. Schühle and am happy to share it with you here!
I want to share my Ostheimer love with you, so Bella Luna Toys is giving away a set of these beloved wooden figures, perfect for a child’s Easter basket!
Set Includes:
- 1 Sheep
- 1 Sitting Rabbit
- 1 Picking Brown Hen
- 1 Brown Chick

We love our Ostheimer toys! Thank you!!!!!
My DD and I love the lion. She keeps saying “rawr!”.
Our favorite is the Ostheimer Dragon — Love his/her tongue sticking out!
I always loved toys by this maker. What a lovely giveaway! For our nature table, the sheep would be my favorite as I’m an avid knitter!
My favorite Ostheimer animal is the Spitz dog.
We love all Ostheimer wooden figures…our nativity would LOVE more animals
Your Ostheimer Wooden Toys Giveaway is very generous & caring. Your toys will bring hours of fun to a child :o)
That was a great interview. My favorite figure would be the farmer because it looks like my husband. 🙂
The nativity (“holy family”) is the most beautiful and I’m not surprised it’s their most popular.
Oh, I love the chicks. Thanks for such a great giveaway.
My favorites are all the little bunnies, especially for Easter.
I love the mermaid! And the hedgehogs are the best too 🙂 This set is also sooo adorable!!!
I just found the flower children on your site – how charming. I can’t decide whether they are my favorite or the trees, so versatile. Your little spring set is sweet and is making me look forward to Easter!
They are beautiful. So simple yet painted with such love. My daughter adores them.
We love these figures! From magical plays to beautiful scenes my six and two year old never grow tired of these. I was thrilled to see this week’s blog was this!! Thank you!
I like the donkey – such a sweet expression. Thanks for the opportunity to win these beautiful figures.
What an opportunity! All our wooden farm animals were lost and this would be great.
We are huge fans of Ostheimer. My husband is from Germany, and my 2 year old plays with wooden figures he had as a child. They are made to last and just beautiful.
Based on our storytelling of late, our current favorites are first, the unicorn and second, the reclining mermaid. We appreciate the simplicity and quality of the Ostheimer figures. They are beautiful.
simply beautiful!!!
What a lovely video, Sarah! We are so pleased with our Ostheimer barn!
my children have real chickens, these chicks are a favorite of theirs, loving the lamb!!! ostheimer are beautiful in an easter basket!
They’re all so lovely.
i just love the knights!
It’s so hard to pick just one favorite! I love the forest animals…and I really have a soft spot for the hedgehogs (and the owl and the standing bunny :-D)
Beautiful giveaway, thank you!
Who would have guessed that everything is still made by hand!
Maggie
Oh I just love Ostheimer what a wonderful oppertunity to see them in Germany! I don’t know that I can choose a favorite Ostheimer figure, they are each so special but I did just order the brown and white standing cow for my son’s birthday. We are doing a puppet play of Jack and the beanstalk and I am using the shepherd boy for Jack, the nesting chicken for the hen that lays the golden eggs, the farm wife for the mother and our new cow to trade for the beans. I needle felted a bean stalk and a harp then, knitted a giant I wish Ostheimer did not discontinue their giant. Thank you so much for the chance to enter the giveaway, what a perfect selection for a spring basket! Good Luck to everyone.
How on earth can I possibly pick one favorite animal? My daughter absolutely loves her rooster and the pig. My son loves his Bernese mountain dog. My favorite… The sitting orange cat.
We love all the farm animals. Right now we’re loving the brown and white pony 🙂
The sheep is my favorite of the animals pictured. It looks gentle and reminds me of some lyrics in a lullaby I sing to my children: “Be always like the lamb so mild, a kind and sweet and gentle child. . .”
Hi, Sarah! Thanks for the chance to win this beautiful set of toys! My daughters bought each other Ostheimer animals for Christmas. Lily bought Piper the yellow tabby cat (which she decided to keep for herself:)), and Piper bought Lily the poodle (one of my favorites). It’s hard to choose because they all have such great character. I think my second favorite is the mole. Thanks again for the chance to win!
We live in the middle of the woods so we love the deer, the bunnies and the squirrels. Thank you for a great give-away!
Wow! International Toy Fair, that sounds so fun! Awesome giveaway. Thank you!
Becca
These are so lovely! I’ve had my eye on them for quite a while. I am absolutely charmed by the bunny, however. My two year old would LOVE it!
I’ve been eyeing these toys for a long time, but have never purchased any of them due to finances. We would love to win this set! Our favorite figure is the bear 🙂
We love the bunnies.
My favorite is the peacock (On my wishlist), my daughter’s favorite is her horse. We recently donated all of the remaining plastic toys to a local charity and we would love to add this beautiful set to our small but growing collection of wooden animals. Thank-you for the opportunity and for sharing your interview! I hope you’ll have new goodies in stock after your trip 🙂
Thank you for the interview. Definitely the rabbit is my favorite! Looks so cute and calm!
I love the fox and the hedgehog!
How lucky you were to go to the International Toy Fair and in Germany!
Were you able to visit the Ostheimer factory?
Our favorites are the farm animals, my son the horse my daughter the cow.
I love all of them 😉
I was not able to visit the Ostheimer factory on this trip, but I am hoping to return to Germany in the summer to visit Ostheimer’s workshop, as well as some of our other European toy makers.
The pond is just wonderful….beautifully made and open-ended!!
*beautifully
I appreciate the simplicity and quality of the Ostheimer figures. They are beautiful. Thank you so much for the chance to enter the giveaway!
Oh, my, what a lovely, generous giveaway! Thank you. I think the nativity would be a favorite with lots of extra animals living there. These little Spring friends are so sweet! Happiness to the winner.
Such lovely toys! My two dear ones would love these.
Thank you so much for the lovely video and giveaway. It’s so hard to choose just one favorite – they are all adorable! I guess I would have to say the kangaroo!
Oh how can I choose? To be honest, it changes with the seasons 🙂 Right now, I love the gestures of both the Zebra and the Dolphin, but also adore all birds. So lovely, and my children are drawn to them more than any other toy!
Thanks for sharing the interview with us….and for the chance to win the animals. The sheep is especially adorable, and so perfect for springtime!
Thank you for sharing the interview. How delightful it must have been to meet the people who bring our children such joy through quality play things.
Our favorite figure is the sitting fox. It makes us think of the Tomten and the Fox book.
I sure love those knights. 🙂
