As many of you know, I was in Germany last week attending the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg.
Not only was I ecstatic to discover many wonderful new wooden toys and Waldorf dolls to introduce this year at Bella Luna Toys, but I was also fortunate to have the opportunity to meet with the presidents of several of the lines of European toys we carry, including Grimm’s Spiel & Holz, PlanToys, Käthe Kruse, HABA, and Ostheimer.
I had a long and wonderful visit with Wolfgang Schühle, the president of Ostheimer in Germany, and met Stephan Zech, the company’s current designer. I was able to share with them my love of Ostheimer figures and tell them about the joy they have brought my family over the last 20 years.
Wolfgang was able to share with me some of the history of the company, founded by Margarete Ostheimer in Stuttgart, Germany nearly 60 years ago. Fortunately, I was able to record some of my talk with Mr. Schühle and am happy to share it with you here!
I want to share my Ostheimer love with you, so Bella Luna Toys is giving away a set of these beloved wooden figures, perfect for a child’s Easter basket!
Set Includes:
- 1 Sheep
- 1 Sitting Rabbit

I think the nativity is beautiful but my son and I both really like the horses as well!
I love the bunny! Thank you for the chance to win!
I really love the nativity.
Thank you for the lovely video! As for favorite animals, it’s so hard to choose. Right now my daughter’s favorite is the dolphin, but that will change in a day or two. 🙂
Love the hen and her baby chicks!
What a sweet set! I just love these classic wooden pieces!
Love the Zoo Animals!!
I love the blue owl and of course all the nativity figures!
I love the sitting fox.
We love Ostheimer too. Impossible to pick a favorite though!! We all love the farm and woodland animals. At the moment, my daughter would probably say the wolves and foxes, my son the monkeys. Thank you for sharing the interview with us. What a wonderful time you must have had.
I don’t know my favorite. They’re all adorable. 🙂
These pieces are awesome, the sitting rabbit is my favorite. In an over-stimulated world these simple toys are treasures to a child’s imagination. Thank you!
Love the farm animals most since that’s what my son loves to play with!
Definitely the bunny! Very wonderful toys!
My favorite figure is the red fox. My daughter loves the little red riding hood.
We don’t have any but my children would really like them. We always admire them at local waldorf. I love the quality with each piece is made.
My son and I love playing with our small (but growing) collection of castle figures. The muted tones are so soothing and I love holding them. I have such a hard time choosing what we will get next: farm pieces? woodland creatures? But the set I covet most is Snow White and her dwarves.
Thanks for the video. I loved learning more about the company and the process.
The piglet is too cute!
Our favorite is the humble standing donkey. So sweet!
Right now, my daughter’s favorite are the gorillas 🙂
I love the flower children on your website, I think my daughter would love them. And, how awesome is that to meet the presidents of those companies? It is so nice to know where my kiddos toys come from. Thank you!
Sitting black and white rabbit. So cute!
Our favorite figure is the hedgehog! My son referred to himself as a baby hedgehog from the age of 18 months to 2 1/2 years old. 🙂 They are now our favorite little animals.
Hi,
I love the trees, i guess they make me think about spring. thx for the giveaway.
We are in love with the unicorn! Thanks for hosting this giveaway!!
These are wonderful, open ended toys! The foxes are beautiful.
these are such beautiful toys! i especially like all the rabbits…my little ones favorite books right now all have bunnies!
I really like the zebra! So cute!
What an amazing give away! We love the Ostheimer wooden figures so much. We started collecting them about a year ago. We give them to our three young children for every gift giving holiday. What I love most about them is that they are natural and open ended toys that encourage creativity. I love that young children can understand very easily how their toys were made because they were carved from wood and not manufactured from plastic which would be so very hard to explain to them. Thanks!
love love love these figures and stable!
Such beautiful toys!
Does anyone else feel that Ostheimer toys seem to glow in your hands? Thank you for including the video. It is special to see the makers.
Though our son is now almost 24, we all continue to love these little creatures. They find their way into so many places thru the year near bedsides, the dining table, the window sills, under the tree. We love them all, my personal favorites are the ponies, we have a herd of them often running through the house. And Sarah thanks, my computer skills are still very lacking, I would rather be playing with the Ostheimer with our neighbor Scarlet!
These are simply precious and beautifully crafted. It would be so difficult to name a favorite. My children would simply adore the farm animals and really any of the figures. I love to see toys like this. Thank you for always carrying such quality items!
Hard to chose one as my favorite as they are all sweet,I really like the deer
This Lady Leo loves the Ostheimer Lion, Male!
Sarah, we are Catholic. So you imagine the joy I felt when I saw Blessed Mary and baby Jesus so beautifully made by Oshtheimer. I am extremely new to waldorf learning. What attracted me was how much Catholicism is celebrated through ritual. Thank you for putting the Mother and Child on sale. I will be purchasing them soon. Blessings!
My daughter would love the rabbits! I’ve been crossing fingers, hoping to see different family figures, such as the inuit people 🙂 we have the ostheimer sled and need the eskimos for it! Also the husky dogs, she has st. benards right now 🙂
I just love all of these figures but my favorite are the fairyland/knight pieces especially the unicorn
We have the farm set, and my two boys (1 and 4) love the baby in his crib. He’s small, so he gets lost a lot, but we always find him. We don’t have any of these farm animals, though, so we would love to win this giveaway!
We have so many happy memories associates with these wee creatures. I do love them all!
My little one especially likes the duckling (and Mama and Daddy ducks too!). Happy Valentine’s Day, all!
The hen is our favorite!
We heart the farm animals!
It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I love the little chicks 🙂
Lovely little animal family.
My son would love any of the zoo animals, but the male lion would probably be his favorite =)
I like the trees and the fox.
Ostheimer Riding Knight, Blue, with Horse and dragon is amazing, it was just so well made and special! They are my favorites, I think, so hard to choose.
My favourite is the unicorn, my little boy loves elephants at the moment 🙂
